There's a moment when the fjord narrows and the cliffs close in. A thousand metres of rock on either side. No other yacht in sight, not one.
That isn't luck
There simply aren't many yachts here. You lie at anchor, alone, a tender ride away from a village with a restaurant worth the trip.
Norway is the alternative most yachting clients haven't considered yet. And unlike the Mediterranean, the season is short, so it pays to plan it well.
When to go
June: the snow is still coming off the plateau and the waterfalls run hard. The light never fully leaves; you'll be on deck at midnight, reading your book and wondering why you aren't tired.
July: the warmest and liveliest month. July would be my pick.
Late August: quieter, greener, and dinner ends in proper darkness again.
The season is short. Start planning early, especially for July.
